Catholic Liturgical Living in April: The Holy Eucharist
The month of April is traditionally dedicated to the Holy Eucharist.
That’s why I made the Eucharist in a monstrance as the main image for this month.
Living liturgically with kids during the month of the Holy Eucharist is a beautiful way to deepen their understanding and love for the Real Presence of Jesus. Here are some ideas:
- Attend Mass and Adoration: Bring your children to Mass and Eucharistic Adoration, encouraging them to participate in prayers and songs. I have a whole post about taking kids to Eucharistic Adoration, with an Adoration colouring page. Check it out here.
- Teach about the Eucharist: Share age-appropriate stories, books, and videos that explain the Eucharist’s significance and its transformation from bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. The First Communion prep course Blessed has all their videos free here and they can be used with children younger than First Communion age, in my opinion.
- Learn: See how the unleavened breads we use for the Mass are made here.
- Read Scripture: Share and discuss Gospel passages about the Last Supper and the Bread of Life discourse.
- Go Deeper: Try this Mass Unit Study from Into the Deep which I find best for about age 7 and up.
The Easter Octave and the Easter Season
The Easter season, also known as Eastertide, is the second-longest liturgical season, with Ordinary Time being the longest. It’s a 50-day celebration that leads up to the feast of Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, as told in the book of Acts (2:1–31).
Read about the Easter Octave (8 days) here.
Within the Easter season, we have two significant observances: Divine Mercy Sunday and the Ascension, which is a holy day of obligation. Divine Mercy Sunday, dedicated to St. Faustina Kowalska’s encounters with Jesus, is celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter and offers special graces and indulgences. Read about it here.
The Ascension commemorates Jesus’ ascent into heaven, traditionally celebrated 40 days after Easter Sunday, but now observed on the Thursday in the sixth week of Easter in many dioceses.
During this joyful season, we focus on the Resurrection and its meaning for our lives as Catholics. It’s a wonderful time to deepen our relationship with Christ and celebrate the hope and new life that Easter brings.

Prayer of St Catherine of Siena
Saint Catherine of Siena – A Prayer to Jesus in the Eucharist
“O boundless charity! Just as You gave us yourself, wholly God and wholly man, so You left us all of yourself as food so that while we are pilgrims in this life, we might not collapse in our weariness, but be strengthened by You, Heavenly Food.
O, mercenary people! And what has your God left you? He has left you himself, wholly God and wholly man, hidden under the whiteness of this bread.
O fire of love! Was it not enough to gift us with creation in Your image and likeness, and to create us anew to grace in Your Son’s blood, without giving us Yourself as food, the whole of divine being, the whole of God?
What drove You? Nothing but Your charity, mad with love as You are!”
Minimalist design catholic calendar for April

April and the season of Easter offer many feast days and ways to celebrate, but including everything on a calendar page can be overwhelming. To avoid this, download a free copy of the liturgical calendar and add in any special days or plans you have.
Remember, it’s okay to not do everything. It would be better to pick 1-2 activities and enjoy them, than try to do too much and be overwhelmed.
