Liturgical Living for the Month of August
Whoa, we’re halfway there! Summer is such a fun and busy time for families. Let’s not forget some amazing powerhouse feast days that happen in August.
Here are some ideas for liturgical living in August:
- Celebrate the Assumption of Mary on August 15th with a special prayer or Marian devotion.
- Participate in a Transfiguration feast day celebration on August 6th, commemorating Jesus’ transformation on Mount Tabor.
- Observe the Feast of St. Dominic on August 8th, founder of the Dominican Order, by learning about his life and work.
- Dedicate the month to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, fostering a deeper devotion through daily rosary recitation. Be sure to check out my rosary resources for kids!
- Incorporate symbols and colors associated with the month’s saints and feast days into your home decor, such as white and blue for the Assumption.
- Make Mary crowns for the Queenship of Mary.
- Share stories of the month’s saints with your family, emphasizing their virtues and examples of faith.
- Connect with your local parish to participate in community events and liturgical celebrations throughout the month.
Ideas for Celebrating the Assumption of Mary (August 15th):
- Begin the day with a special family prayer or rosary dedicated to the Blessed Mother, reflecting on her assumption into heaven.
- Attend Mass and participate in any parish events or processions honoring the Assumption.
- Create a Marian altar or sacred space in your home, adorned with flowers, candles, and images of Mary. Try this fun candle tutorial.
- Share stories and readings about the Assumption with your family, discussing the significance of this event in the life of Mary and the Church.
- Gather for a family meal, incorporating traditional dishes or symbolic foods associated with the Blessed Mother, such as a blue and white-themed dessert representing her colors.
Ideas for Celebrating the Queenship of Mary (August 22nd):
- Begin the day with a prayer or meditation focused on Mary’s role as Queen of Heaven and Earth, asking for her intercession and guidance.
- Participate in a crowning ceremony for a Mary statue or icon in your home, using a small crown or floral wreath to symbolize her queenship.
- Create a DIY craft project with children, such as making crowns or decorating homemade cards to honor Mary’s queenship.
- Reflect on the scriptural basis for Mary’s queenship, sharing readings from Revelation 12 or other relevant passages.
- Attend Mass or a special devotion at your parish, fostering a deeper connection with your faith community as you celebrate Mary’s queenship together.
Both celebrations offer opportunities to deepen your devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
