Catholic Liturgical Living in February
The month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family. In the early part of February, we are still within the season of Ordinary Time. Then before we know it, we are in Lent! Lent is indicated by the violet (purple) border along the top of the dates.
Check out my list of fasting ideas for Lent that aren’t related to food!

There are many other feasts and ways to celebrate in February. If I added everything, it would be too much visual clutter! That’s why I recommend that you print your copy of my liturgical calendar free download and add in any special days for your family along with anything else you plan to do.
Have you heard the phrase, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good”? I tend to find that it can be easy for the idea of doing liturgical living right, to overtake you and you wind up not doing anything at all!
Especially heading into Lent, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all the good things you could be doing. Why not just pick 1-2 things to do per week to help combat that overhwelm?
How to celebrate in February
Here are some of my favourite ideas for liturgical living celebrations in February.
- At the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, formerly known at Candlemas, you can bring your candles to church to be blessed.
- For St Brigid, making traditional St. Brigid’s Crosses.
- Sing the hymn Immaculate Mary, also known as the Lourdes Hymn for Our Lady of Lourdes.
- Learn about the Chair of St Peter.
- Throat blessings for the feast of St Blaise.
- Get your ashes on Ash Wednesday.
Lyrics for The Lourdes Hymn (Immaculate Mary)
Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing.
You reign now in Heaven with Jesus our King.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
In Heaven the blessed your glory proclaim;
On earth we, your children, invoke your sweet name.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
We pray for our Mother, the Church upon earth,
And bless, dearest Lady, the land of our birth.
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
