Free Printable Fruits of the Spirit Colouring Page

In this post I will be sharing a free printable Fruits of the Spirit colouring page from Galatians 5:22-23 along with some tips on memorizing scripture.

What better way to celebrate the birthday of our Mother Church than by memorizing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit? These free printable fruits of the spirit colouring pages will help your kids learn this scripture verse by heart.

This free 2-page bundle is based on Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Matthew 7:16 says, “You will know them by their fruit.” How can we expect our children to know how to recognize the good fruit of God in their lives if we don’t teach them about the fruit?

Memorizing scripture has been so beneficial (yes, one might even say fruitful!) to me in my life. As a child, my parents encouraged us to memorize poetry and prayers. I also really loved to memorize song lyrics and some psalms. I found them very comforting. However, I remember the first time I was truly challenged to memorize scripture.

In high school, I participated in a youth leadership week as a part of Steubenville Catholic Youth Conferences. The young adults leading us helped us learn how to memorize scripture. We memorized one verse per day, coming away with 5 new verses of memorized scripture by the end of our preparatory week. I think this was the first time anyone really challenged me to memorize something quickly, and I loved it!

Reasons to Memorize God’s Word

Memorizing God’s Word is an amazing tool for every person. First of all, it is good, true, and beautiful. Phillipians 4:8 tells us, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

What are our thoughts? Our thoughts lead to our moods and behaviours, and our actions and interactions. Our thoughts control us in so many ways. When you memorize things, you learn them by heart – and what an amazing gift it is to our children to have God’s word written on their hearts.

In the world, we are bombarded with many messages from the media and even our own thoughts. When we memorize God’s word, we cultivate good and holy thoughts. These good and holy thought will help us to be closer to God, to be more virtuous, and to fight the inner battle of remaining close to Jesus.

This Mini Unit study is 30+ pages long! It includes 3 posters to display in your classroom or child’s room. It also features copy work and fill-in-the blanks with options to trace or complete the work independently. Memory match cards complete the unit.

How to use memory match cards to memorize the fruits of the spirit

The memory cards are a great feature. Kids can play memory match together, or re-order the cards so they match the scripture quote.

You can also use memory match cards as a living fill-in-the-blank: First, place all the cards on the table in the order that they are in the scripture verse. Next, remove cards one or two at a time, reciting the scripture verse each time. Soon, you’ll be able to recite the whole verse!

Another fun way of using memory match cards is to sit in a circle and pass out the cards in order. Then, go around the circle and each say the fruit of the spirit.

In a larger group like a co-op class or catechism class, you can hand out the cards to the children and get them to line up in order of the fruits of the spirit.
