What is Lent?

Lent is a liturgical time periodor season in the Catholic Church. Lent lasts about 40 days. It is a time of penance, prayer, and giving. It begins with Ash Wednesday and lasts until Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week.

During Lent, Catholics of all ages are encouraged to enter more fully into the season by taking on various additional spiritual practices.

What does your family do for Lent? I’d love to hear below!

Daily Lent Challenge Jar

This year, I thought it would be fun to try a jar method. We will be pulling a daily Lent challenge from a jar!

I have included 4 pages of themed challenges. They are fairly simple and could likely be done in a classroom or family setting.

The Daily Lent Challenge Jar contains:

  1. Prayer: This page has 8 simple prayer challenges for your jar.
  2. Bible: This page has 8 Lenten Bible verses to read and reflect upon.
  3. Fast: This page has 8 accessible fasting ideas that should work for most kids.
  4. Give: This page contains 8 ideas of ways to give and be generous.
  5. Make Your Own: I also added a page where you can write in some challenges that would work well for your family. They have a separate symbol, so it is easier to identify them in the jar and you can select when to do them (especially if they are a bigger challenge). This would be a good place for things like:
    • Go to confession
    • Attend daily Mass
    • Pray the Rosary

How to Use the Lent Challenge Jar

  1. Print the pages.
  2. Write your own challenges on the blank template if desired.
  3. Cut each one out.
  4. Add the challenges to your own jar and decorate with the printable label that I included, OR
  5. You can also print the jar page and staple to a piece of construction paper for a glass-free option that will even go on the fridge!
  6. Use daily or as needed throughout Lent.

My Lent Challenge Jar can be adapted just for your family’s needs.

Kids can pull their own challenge each day, or you can all work on the same one together! I also made the printable large enough to post on the fridge to jog your memory throughout the day.

How to Access the Free Printable

  2. Check your inbox and click through to the PDF.
  3. Save it to your computer or phone.
  4. Print it off at home or at your local printer.
