Exciting news, friends! Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati was canonized on Sunday, September 7, 2025, together with Blessed Carlo Acutis!
And as a boy mom of six, I can’t even tell you how thrilled I am. Sometimes it feels like so many saints my kids hear about lived in worlds very different from theirs. Pier Giorgio, though? He was young, athletic, full of life, fun-loving, and still deeply devoted to prayer and serving others.
He’s exactly the kind of role model I want my sons to have — someone who shows them that holiness isn’t boring or out of reach, but something you can live with joy, adventure, and courage.

To celebrate this canonization, I’ve created a free Pier Giorgio Frassati colouring page that you can use at home, in the classroom, or with your parish.
Keep reading for ideas on how to use it, plus some inspiring stories, quotes, and trivia about this new saint.
Who Was Pier Giorgio Frassati?
Pier Giorgio was born in Turin, Italy, in 1901. His family was well-off — his father was the founder of the newspaper La Stampa and even served as Italy’s ambassador to Germany.
But even though Pier Giorgio grew up in privilege, he never clung to it. From a young age, he showed a deep compassion for the poor. His heart was moved by the suffering of others, and he spent much of his time and money serving those in need.
Despite his busy student life, he joined Catholic Action, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and several other Catholic groups. He was often found visiting the sick, carrying food and medicine to the poor, and organizing charitable works. His spirituality was deeply Eucharistic — he loved daily Mass, frequent adoration, and praying the rosary.
At the same time, Pier Giorgio was joyful, energetic, and adventurous. He loved mountain climbing, skiing, hiking, and being outdoors with his friends. On hikes, he would pause to pray the rosary or lead songs, keeping Christ at the center of even his most lighthearted adventures.
Sadly, he contracted polio at the age of 24, likely from serving the sick. He died within a week, on July 4, 1925. At his funeral, thousands of Turin’s poor — people his family didn’t even know — came to pay their respects. They testified with their presence to the hidden life of charity Pier Giorgio had lived.
Pier Giorgio’s Rise to Sainthood
Pier Giorgio Frassati’s path to sainthood has been a long and inspiring journey. His cause was first opened in 1932 but, like many processes in Church history, it faced delays and was eventually taken up again under Pope Paul VI in 1978.
A few years later, in 1987, Frassati was declared Venerable, and the first miracle attributed to his intercession—a remarkable healing from tuberculosis in 1933—paved the way for his beatification by Pope John Paul II on May 20, 1990.
Fast forward to recent years: on November 25, 2024, the Vatican officially recognized a second miracle. This time, it involved a seminarian in Los Angeles who had suffered a torn Achilles tendon. During a novena to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, he experienced instantaneous healing—a powerful witness to the young saint’s intercession.
With this miracle confirmed, the Church rejoiced as Pope Leo XIV canonized Frassati on September 7, 2025, in a beautiful ceremony at St. Peter’s Square. The celebration was made even more historic by the fact that it took place alongside the canonization of another beloved millennial, Carlo Acutis.
What Makes Him Such a Great Role Model for Kids?
Honestly, as a mom of boys, Pier Giorgio feels like a gift. Here’s why:
- He was sporty and adventurous. My boys love to run, climb, and play outside. Pier Giorgio shows them that these gifts can be used for God’s glory.
- He was cheerful. He wasn’t gloomy or distant; he loved laughter, friends, and games. Holiness radiated joy in him.
- He was generous. He gave away his train fare to the poor and chose to walk home instead. That’s a lesson my kids can grasp — small sacrifices make a difference.
- He was devoted to prayer. Even with a busy schedule, he made time for Mass, confession, and the rosary. That balance of faith and fun is such an important example.
- He was relatable. He wasn’t a priest or religious. He was a student, a friend, and a son — just like our kids.
Quotes from Pier Giorgio
“Verso l’alto!” (“To the heights!”) — his personal motto
“The higher we go, the better we shall hear the voice of Christ.”
“Jesus is with me. I have nothing to fear.”
“God gives us health so that we may serve the sick.”
“You ask me whether I am in good spirits. How could I not be, so long as my trust in God gives me strength. We must always be cheerful. Sadness should be banished from all Christian souls. For suffering is a far different thing from sadness, which is the worst disease of all. It is almost always caused by lack of Faith. But the purpose for which we have been created shows us the path along which we should go, perhaps strewn with many thorns, but not a sad path. Even in the midst of intense suffering it is one of joy.”
“To live without faith, without a heritage to defend, without battling constantly for truth, is not to live but to ‘get along’; we must never just ‘get along.’”
“Modern society is drowning in the sorrows of human passions and it is distancing itself from every ideal of love and peace. Catholics, we and you, must bring the breath of goodness that can only spring from faith in Christ.”
“I urge you with all the strength of my soul to approach the Eucharist Table as often as possible. Feed on this Bread of the Angels from which you will draw the strength to fight inner struggles.”

Why Colouring Pages Are Perfect for Celebrating
I love using colouring pages as part of our feast day celebrations. They give my kids a chance to slow down, focus their hands, and think about the saint’s life while they colour. For younger kids, it’s a gentle introduction to who Pier Giorgio was. For older ones, it’s an opportunity to talk more deeply about the Beatitudes, generosity, or making prayer part of daily life.
And honestly, as a busy mom, I love that colouring pages are easy prep. Just print and go! Sometimes that’s exactly what we need.

My hope is that as my boys grow, they’ll see in Pier Giorgio not just a saint, but a big brother in faith who shows them how to climb toward heaven with joy.
