Transfiguration of the Lord Colouring Page

August 6th is the Solemnity of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

What happened at the Transfiguration of the Lord?

Just before entering Jerusalem for His Passion, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain—what tradition tells us was Mount Tabor.

There, as He prayed, something miraculous happened: His face began to shine like the sun, and His clothes became dazzling white. In that moment, He allowed His closest friends to glimpse His divine glory.

Standing with Him were Moses and Elijah—two great figures of the Old Testament—speaking with Jesus about the suffering and death He was about to endure, and the glory of the Resurrection to come.

It was a moment of both awe and preparation, reminding the disciples (and all of us) that the Cross would not be the end of the story.

Scripture tells us that the voice of God the Father was heard, saying: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him” (Matthew 17:5). What a powerful affirmation—not just for the disciples, but for every one of us trying to follow Jesus in our daily lives.

Peter and John would later write about this encounter, remembering it as a moment that confirmed Jesus’ divinity and His identity as the Messiah (2 Peter 1:17, John 1:14).

As Catholic moms, the Transfiguration of the Lord invites us to pause and reflect: Have we taken time to go up the mountain with Jesus? Do we allow moments of quiet prayer where we can see His light more clearly, especially amid the noise and chaos of family life?

God still speaks. He still reveals His glory—often in the ordinary, hidden places of our homes and hearts. Let’s keep our eyes on Christ, trusting that even when the road ahead includes the Cross, it always leads to Resurrection.

A Simple Prayer for Mothers at the Feast of the Transfiguration

Lord Jesus, help me to find moments in my day to be still with You. Open my eyes to see Your glory—whether on a mountaintop or in the middle of dishes and diapers. May I hear the Father’s voice reminding me to listen to You, trust in You, and follow You wherever You lead. Amen.

Family Reflection Question:
Where do we see Jesus’ light shining in our family life? How can we listen to Him more closely this week—together and individually?
